-
Inspect surrounding area for combustibles, advise owner & relocate combustibles - Inspect general condition of the system (signs of water, burnt wires & damage)
- Check for appropriate supply of fresh air into room and to system
- Check the overall performance of the system while the system is in operation
- Listen for odd sounds while unit is in operation
- Check for accumulation of dirt or rust on the vent pipe or vent hood collection area
- Vent pipe must be inspected for rust, holes, sagging & signs of damage. Check & seal flue at chimney
- All flue pipe joints must be screwed in three places to avoid disconnecting at the joints
- Check the P.S.I. on the temperature / pressure gauge (cold 12-15 lbs / hot 15 –22 lbs)
- Check all air vents
- Check air elimination devices for proper operation
- Inspect & test boiler high limit aquastat control and settings. Cut off should be set at 180 to 190 degrees for baseboard heating
- Check diaphragm expansion tank for 12 P.S.I. at zero water pressure & for water log.
- For old style tanks (shut off feed valve to tank & drain) maybe water logged
- Safety relief valve must be piped 6” above floor and have no leaks
-
If signs of sooting is seen
- Combustion may need adjustment,
- Cleaning between sections may be needed,
- Check draft on chimney or blockage in flue pipe
- Test low water cut off for proper operation
- Check operation of emergency switches
- Ring out all safety devices (check with ohm meter)
- Check gas pressure (on the burner side of the gas valve)
- Check operation of the flue damper
- Check & tighten all electrical connections including locknuts & connectors
- Check the operation of all zone valves & thermostats
- Make sure 24v transformer is reading 24/25v on meter
- Oil circulator pump to manufacturers specs if required
- Check the color of the flame for good air / gas mixture
- Pressure & temperature gauge check whether readings are reasonable
- Remove the vent pipe at the boiler inducer outlet connection and check for sooting
- Inspect condensate drain fitting & tubing verify that the condensate can run free
- Check for cracks in the air hose for pressure switches & condensate line also make sure the lines are not pinched kinked or obstructed
- Place a few drops of S.A.E. 20 oil into the inducer motor oil ports
- Make sure the condensate trap is filled with water (Check valve may have to be replaced)
