High Efficiency Hot Air Furnace Tune-Up

  1. Inspect general condition of the system (signs of water, burnt wires & damage)
  2. Inspect surrounding area for combustibles, advise owner and relocate
  3. Lubricate blower
  4. Check blower speed
  5. Check and tighten all electrical connections including locknuts and connectors
  6. Check and tighten mounting screws
  7. Change customer supplied filter
  8. Check for appropriate supply of fresh air into room
  9. Inspect burners for rust, dirt & signs of visible damage
  10. Vacuum burners and burner box wire brush if necessary
  11. Inspect cleanliness of chimney and chimney draw
  12. Inspect flue / exhaust pipe for pitch, rust, holes, sagging, bad joints and damage
  13. Ensure that all flue joints are screwed at three equal points
  14. While unit is running check the overall performance
  15. Are any unusual sounds or odors present?
  16. Check for accumulation of unusual dirt or rust at the vent hood collection area & flue 
  17. If the unit has self diagnostic capabilities run the test
  18. Check for gas leaks
  19. Check carbon monoxide levels in room
  20. Check for proper operation of the service switches as well as polarity
  21. Ring out all safety devices using multi tester / test pressure switches
  22. Check gas pressure on the burner side of the gas valve
  23. Check the stack temperature
  24. Ensure the blower access door is secure
  25. Perform combustion analysis and compare against manufacturers specifications
  26. Check condition of fan belt if applicable replace if necessary
  27. Check & vacuum out blower motor & clean squirrel cage
  28. Check air flow at registers and balance as necessary
  29. Listen carefully to determine if blower shuts off shortly after burner flames are off
  30. Test hot surface igniters for resistance using a multi tester
  31. Inspect heat exchanger for cracks or holes. If needed recommend a smoke test
  32. Inspect condensate drain for blockage
  33. Inspect exterior vent and air intake terminals for obstructions & sooting
