Inspect general condition of the system (signs of water, burnt wires & damage) - Inspect surrounding area for combustibles, advise owner and relocate
- Lubricate blower
- Check blower speed
- Check and tighten all electrical connections including locknuts and connectors
- Check and tighten mounting screws
- Change customer supplied filter
- Check for appropriate supply of fresh air into room
- Inspect burners for rust, dirt & signs of visible damage
- Vacuum burners and burner box wire brush if necessary
- Inspect cleanliness of chimney and chimney draw
- Inspect flue / exhaust pipe for pitch, rust, holes, sagging, bad joints and damage
- Ensure that all flue joints are screwed at three equal points
- While unit is running check the overall performance
- Are any unusual sounds or odors present?
- Check for accumulation of unusual dirt or rust at the vent hood collection area & flue
- If the unit has self diagnostic capabilities run the test

Check for gas leaks - Check carbon monoxide levels in room
- Check for proper operation of the service switches as well as polarity
- Ring out all safety devices using multi tester / test pressure switches
- Check gas pressure on the burner side of the gas valve
- Check the stack temperature
- Ensure the blower access door is secure
- Perform combustion analysis and compare against manufacturers specifications
- Check condition of fan belt if applicable replace if necessary
- Check & vacuum out blower motor & clean squirrel cage
- Check air flow at registers and balance as necessary
- Listen carefully to determine if blower shuts off shortly after burner flames are off
- Test hot surface igniters for resistance using a multi tester
- Inspect heat exchanger for cracks or holes. If needed recommend a smoke test
- Inspect condensate drain for blockage
- Inspect exterior vent and air intake terminals for obstructions & sooting
